Monthly Rent (Lease) Receipt Template

Download the monthly rent (to landlord) receipt template to record rental payments that tenants make. Recording rental payments can help avoid disputes over how much rent is due and help landlords and tenants prove the amount of rent paid for other reasons. Each invoice should record the parties’ names, the amounts paid and still due, and the associated addresses and contact information.

How to Make in Adobe PDF and Microsoft Word

Step 1 – Download in Adobe PDF (.pdf) or Microsoft Word (.doc).

Step 2 – At the top, enter the date, the receipt number, the names of the sending and receiving parties, and the address of the property being rented.

Step 3 – In the right portion of the table, enter the amount of rent due, the amount actually paid, and any remaining balance due as the difference between these numbers. Then check the method of payment below.

Step 4 – Certify the receipt’s authenticity by signing it, using a personal stamp, or otherwise so it will carry official authority.

How to Make in Microsoft Excel

Step 1 – Download in Microsoft Excel (.xls).

Step 2 – Begin by entering your company’s name and contact information at the top, or your personal information if you act as an individual landlord, and include the statement number and customer ID to the right.

Step 3 – Next, enter the billing address of the person being billed, the address of the property being rented, and the dates of the rental contract’s duration.

Step 4 – In the table, record each payment received during the period the invoice covers, including the date received, the amount, and a description. Other than rental payments, these could include utilities if the renter pays them through the landlord instead of directly to the utility provider. Add each amount in the right column to arrive at the total the renter has paid during the period covered.

Step 5 – If there is any balance still due, complete the remittance section at the bottom with the payment address and name, and the amount due and due date, so the renter has a clear way to pay the remainder.
